Meet the women-led deep tech startups selected to join the EPIC-X Acceleration+ Programme.
Chosen through a competitive European open call, these 20 startups represent the next generation of deep tech innovation across Europe’s moderate and emerging innovation ecosystems. Through EPIC-X, they will receive financial support, business coaching and expert guidance, and access to cross-border networking opportunities to help them scale their solutions, strengthen market readiness, and expand their impact.
The selected startups showcase the power of women-led innovation to address complex challenges, create sustainable growth, and contribute to a more inclusive European deep tech ecosystem.
Agnese Stunda-Zu

Dr. sc. ing. Agnese Stunda-Zujeva is a scientist, entrepreneur, and innovation leader with 20+ years at Riga Technical University. Her background spans chemical engineering, materials science, biotechnology, research, and teaching. Since 2017, she has focused on spirulina, founding SpirulinaNord in 2019 as CEO and public face. She bridges science and entrepreneurship to create biotech-based healthy food with societal and environmental impact.

The project focuses on advancing controlled Spirulina cultivation into an engineered nutritional matrix. It treats cultivation parameters, fortification strategies, formulation context, and dosage design as integrated technological variables. AMSIMCEL’s HyperPV is a groundbreaking Physical Verification framework that accelerates integrated circuit (IC) verification, covering everything from silicon to advanced packaging. Using GPU-based engines for DRC, LVS, ERC, and 3D Rule Checks, it enables semiconductor companies to speed up the verification process and maximize production efficiency. Aligned with Advanced Computing and High-Performance Computing, HyperPV is a key innovation for 3D-IC design and contributes to Romania’s Smart Specialization Strategy in Digital Economy and Space Technologies.

Anna Šalátová is the CEO of the Institute of Radiation Protection in Slovakia, with hands-on experience in radiation protection and public health. She began her career as a radiological technician at a hospital in Trenčín, gaining a practical understanding of radiation safety. She later enrolled in an external public health programme at the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava. Alongside her studies, she became involved in the leadership of the Institute, eventually rising to CEO. Her focus includes education of healthcare professionals, innovation in training and learning processes, and raising public awareness of radiation protection. One of her key projects is the Radiation Exposure Passport for Patients, designed to improve patients’ awareness of radiation exposure and contribute to safer healthcare in Slovakia.

The Radiation Exposure Passport for Patients is a digital health solution that allows patients to securely access, understand, and share their medical radiation exposure history. Developed by the Institute of Radiation Protection in Slovakia, it integrates with the national e-government authentication system to ensure secure access, privacy, and GDPR compliance. Built on the DQC Monitor infrastructure, operational since 2014, the solution covers over 5 million patients and 75 million recorded exposures. By consolidating data from public and private healthcare providers, it promotes transparency, reduces unnecessary repeated imaging, and gives patients greater control over their healthcare data.

This Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) utilizes computer vision and deep learning to provide automated diagnosis across 239 ICD-11 dermatological conditions. It also offers validated severity assessments for 7 clinical scales, including PASI, SCORAD, EASI, IGA, APASI, ALADIN, and AUAS, enhancing clinical decision-making and improving dermatological care accessibility.

The project sits at the intersection of AI, machine learning, and robotics, addressing the Czech National Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) priorities by increasing the value of the manufacturing sector through digital transformation and industrial automation. It aims to transform traditional industrial sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, construction, chemical, and mining by embedding “safety-by-design” through deep-tech solutions. The flagship products, SPARK and AVA, are integrated hardware/software systems that enable machinery and industrial environments to perceive, analyze, and act autonomously. She has established the country’s first multidisciplinary nutrigenomics team, integrating genetic insights into clinical and performance-focused environments. Boryana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in E-Business and E-Governance from Sofia University.

The Re:Gena project tackles a significant challenge in personalized and preventive medicine: transforming complex genomic data into clear, actionable, and clinically meaningful decisions that align with Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC). This initiative bridges the fields of biotechnology and data-driven healthcare systems, aiming to deliver a robust clinical decision-support platform. The platform, built on Re:Gena’s validated medical genetics and multi-omics approach, helps clinicians by producing prioritized insights, draft interpretations, and evidence-based grading. All of this is done while ensuring that clinical decision-making remains under the control of the medical expert.

She holds a degree in Chemistry, providing a strong interdisciplinary foundation in analytical methods and applied sciences. Her academic and professional path has focused on miniaturized devices, particularly sensors and biosensors, with an interest in sustainable, low-cost solutions for use directly at the point of need. These devices enable rapid, accessible analyses that can be transferred from the laboratory to real-world settings, making diagnostics simpler and more efficient. She is co-author of two scientific publications.

The Cl-Fast project, proposed by Sense4Med, a university spin-off and Italian SME in the health medtech sector, focuses on developing a non-invasive, miniaturized, and low-cost diagnostic system. The project aligns with EPIC-X’s deep-tech domains of Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology, and Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, enabling the creation of a diagnostic solution based on biochemical sensing and functional materials. Greenroads addresses a critical gap in infrastructure planning by providing cities with more accurate data for road design and policy. Traditional monitoring methods often fail to account for non-vehicle road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, and rely on costly manual data collection or intrusive sensors. Greenroads converts footage from existing cameras or drones into actionable data, accessible through a user-friendly dashboard with analytics and reports that integrate into existing workflows. As part of its project, Greenroads will undergo coaching to transition from a technical startup to a commercially focused business, establishing a sustainable B2G sales strategy and clear financial projections for growth.

Its language model, UnbiasedAI, is trained on a proprietary, bias-free dataset, ensuring a fair, merit-based hiring process. The platform removes sensitive identifiers, factors in 22 bias-related factors, and uses inclusive language to ensure hiring decisions are driven by talent, not identity.

The project addresses a growing environmental challenge with regulatory, economic, and societal implications across Europe, as public authorities and companies face increasing requirements under environmental directives such as EPR, CSRD, and CSDDD. Recycllux has developed a data-driven solution combining AI-based Earth Observation analysis, digital coordination tools, and blockchain-enabled traceability. Its proprietary AI models identify and prioritize marine plastic hotspots from satellite data, coordinate field interventions with local cleanup capacity, and create transparent, auditable records of verified impact.

Produced through Diamante’s proprietary Plant Molecular Farming platform, the technology combines synthetic biology, molecular biotechnology, and advanced biomanufacturing, using plants as scalable bioreactors for therapeutic nanomaterials. The project addresses a major unmet medical need, as RA affects millions worldwide and current treatments rely largely on chronic immunosuppression. Diamante’s approach aims to selectively target disease-relevant immune responses while preserving overall immune function, with superior efficacy shown in pre-clinical studies.
